    Description

    New Chinese woven tapestry thangka depicting six-armed Mahakala - an emanation of Boddhisattva Avalokiteshvara and the leader of the dharmapalas (Defenders of the Buddhist Law) - standing on a lotus base trampling
    on elephant headed Vigneshwara (Lord of Obstacles). His name means “beyond time/death” and he represents the flow of time.
    This is 6-armed form of Mahakala with each hand holding a different implement, the crown is adorned with 5 skulls, he is wearing an elephant skin, a tiger pelt and a snake belt with severed heads. There are a dragon and Garuda flying above him and 2 dharmapalas depicted below (one is riding his mount - a tiger). Beautifully made, use of metallic threads of golden color, wonderful detailing, in mint condition. Size 36 x 24 inches (90 x 61 cm).
